This DLC releases in waves and will eventually double the number of tracks available by some time in 2023. Additionally, you can gain access to even more tracks from previous Mario Kart games by paying for the Booster Course Pass. However, to access the best karts, you'll need to play some races.

The only one locked from the get-go is Gold Mario. You have access to all of the tracks and characters (except one), including content that was initially part of DLC packs back on Wii U's Mario Kart 8 in 2014. Each one offers unique obstacles and takes time to master. You'll see Toad's Turnpike and Twisted Mansion, and new courses like Water Park or Cloudtop. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offers up 48 different tracks, including new designs and old favorites from previous titles. However, the optional kiddie controls make playing approachable for any age or skill level, so you can play with the whole family. It still requires a combination of luck and skill to win, so even if you're playing as your favorite character, victory is never assured. You can now easily powerslide through turns to overtake other racers, even if you've never played a Mario Kart game before. The driving controls got a major update and have been fine-tuned for the Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe takes everything that has always been fantastic about this franchise and makes it even better. It can feel a little unfair sometimes, but overall, this one is worth checking out.Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Hero (Image credit: Nintendo) The retro graphics are nice and there are plenty of game modes and characters to choose from. In summary, Hotshot Racing is a nice racing homage to the classic arcade racers of years past. They stick to you no matter how fast you go and would often bump you and mess up your turns. There are some game balance issues when it comes to AI opponents, though, particularly with their use of the rubber banding effect. Lastly, there's an online global leaderboard where you can race against other players' ghosts and compete for the fastest track lap times. Meanwhile, Cops and Robbers will have you try your best to avoid capture by the police. For an extra twist, you can try out the Drive or Explode wherein you will need to maintain a certain speed else the bomb strapped to your car will explode. Hotshot Racing has the Time Trial and Grand Prix Modes if you want to play the classic arcade racing experience. What's more, you'll be able to play the game solo or with your friends in 4-player split-screen or online multiplayer of up to 8 racers. You get to choose from 8 speed-thirsty drivers to control, each with its own unique car and characteristics.

Hotshot Racing has 16 tracks to race in that features various locations, from coastlines to mountain passes, and even the jungle.
